Non-homogenized milk

What do you do with that plug of butter fat on the top of the bottle? We like to just eat it, but is there something to do with it other than that? Collect it from a few bottles and do....what with it?

I think you are supposed to shake the milk to distribute it through and drink it. Otherwise you should just get skim milk.

Doesn't that make it...homogenized?

Homogenization is a process by which the milk is treated so the fat remains evenly suspended throughout the milk. Simply shaking the bottle is only a temporary dispersal.

As for why some people prefer non homogenized milk:

Shaking doesn't homogenize it. Shaking is what makes it go from cream to butter. The cream rises to the top. It's a plug in the top of the bottle because the bottle has been jostled around during delivery, turning the cream into almost-butter.

I've heard that people put it with fruit and eat it

My mom would save the cream and make butter out of it.

No. You get milk with little globs of the cream in it instead of one big chunk. Homogenized milk doesn't have chunks.

I shake mine so toddler gets the little bits of cream. He seems to love it.

I put a ckean knife into it to loosen it and pour a little milk out by then give it a good shake.
