So, I know the schools have the new parent receptions, but I was wondering if they have events for new student. I would like for my DS who is coming into K at a school where there is already a PK to meet some of the kids before the start of school. Thoughts?
Some do, yes.
Most schools have a way to do this. Beauvoir does Buddy families, Sidwell does larger playdates. Not sure of others. You can also ask for a parent name or two from your class - or just pull them from the directory - and set something up yourself. If you're coming from a feeder preschool, groups of parents who know each other also often does group get togethers before hand. GL!
Our school has a BBQ for new families in May and two or three playdates over the summer. Each family is also assigned one or two buddy families who are already at the school.
When replying please post the name of the school. Thanks.
ST Patrick has a new families breakfast I think in June (I can't remember anymore). Families are also assigned a buddy family. You can also contact admissions and they will put you in contact with kids from your rising grade for some playdates. I am thinking most schools do a similar thing.
Christ Episcopal School in Rockville does buddy families, a new family get-together (in May I think) and invites new families to school events. The admissions director does a good job of helping new families connect with others at the school
How about Maret?
If you're asking about a particular school your child has been admitted to, call the school. Things do change year-to-year, so even parents at that school may not give you entirely correct information.
Maret has a middle school student shadow day, and a new parent's cocktail so far in the admissions package. Not sure what else they may have further in the summer
