I'm not friends with any of my kids teachers on Facebook (that's another story) but i have friends that are so I see the comments.
More than one teacher posted how happy they are that they get another day off and how they better not add days at the end of the school. Meanwhile, I have no childcare and my work is always open so I am stuck taking vacation now. As my kids say "not fair!" I understand how hard teachers work but really this seems inappropriate to me. |
Eh I don't think it is a big deal. |
Teachers work hard? For real. They work 3/4 of the year and have countless 3-4 day weekends. They still get the same pay. Sorry. I want the days made up at the end of the year. |
Everyone is unprofessional in all walks of life these days. Parents too -- they talk about " how hard " it is to be a parent and how much they hate it because they don't get to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Bunch of adolescents IMO. Everyone needs to stop being so childish. |
eh You're not worth the effort to respond . . . |
Fair point. |
There is no reason for parents and students to be friends with the teachers on FB.
Unless it is a FB group - like the Green Team @ xyz MS or something like that. |
This is why I never "Facebook friend" any of the parents of my students until the kids are no longer my students. |
The facebook friending is common at our school with certain cliques of parents. I think its wrong also but that's another story. My kid's teacher is friends with 3 or 4 parents in the current class. |
I bet a lot of people in a lot of professions posted gleefully if they got off work, not just teachers. Let it be. Yo would probably do the same if your place of work closed. |
OP, I understand your frustration. I also get that the free vacation day for a teacher is the loss of an EARNED vacation day for you.
But, geez, it's stupid-ass facebook, a teacher should be able to express her/his happiness about a day off. |
I know! Can you imagine folks in the Greatest Generation belly-aching like this during the WWII years? There's a reason we always think of them as more mature - they were. |
Yes, I can. Because they did. The reason we always think of them as more mature is because they are our grandparents. |
The solution to this problem is to block all that stuff from your Facebook. |
