Looking for a cool coffee shop near 14th/Dupont/Columbia Hgts

Anonymous
Best friend is coming into town, and I'm looking for a casual, comfortable place with great coffee to hang out for a few hours. She's staying in Dupont Circle, so anywhere around there, too (I'm coming from Baltimore, so I don't know the area very well). Thanks!

Kramerbooks. Has a bookstore attached, has a full menu if you want lunch.

Filter if you are more into the artisanal beans ground and poured by a barista with at least one of the following on his/her clothing: mustache, bicycle, strongman.

Tabard Inn is fabulous if you want to hang out in a cozy living room with a fire, but tends more to the cocktail than coffee crowd.

I second Tabard Inn. With the cold weather, it would be very cozy there. It looks more like a living room with a fire place and there are a few other rooms to chose from. Not a "cool" coffee shop per say but a unique place to sit for a few hours and I'm sure they have coffee on hand (or cocktails if you prefer).
