If you place an order to sell a mutual fund on Fidelity

Anonymous
When does it execute? The order shows up as "open" and I put in no pricing conditions. I would have thought it would have sold during the trading day today but it didn't. Is the timing for mutual funds different than stock since they are only priced once a day? It's not a fidelity fund, if that matters.

Pretty sure it will happen overnight. I believe it would have to be an "Exchange Traded Fund" (ETF) to sell on the same day.

+1 You could call Fidelity to confirm this

You will get today's closing price but it takes them a few hours to calculate that, and then that process the trade.

Fidelity has an awesome online chat feature where you can ask these types of questions. I do it all the time...

It's done at the end of the day after the market has closed.
