I feel like a selfish b---- for even complaining about this; it's not like I expect someone to risk their life to come to work to take care of my little monster. The roads are supposed to be truly bad tomorrow morning, and everyone should stay home and be safe.
But man, all these snow days are killing me. I'm single, so if the daycare is closed, I'm at home, watching my kid careen off the walls. A friend of mine at work was a little incredulous that my home daycare follows the emergency closing schedule of the local school system, because her home daycare does not. It made me wonder if my daycare is unusual with this, or whether hers is. |
| It depends - does an assistant need to get there to stay in ratio? Then yes, they close. If its someone alone in their home, it should be whether you can make it to them. |
+1 A one person operation run out her living room? Open on snow days generally. A larger operation with a couple staff who have to make it to work each day? More likely to close on snow days. |
| Most of the home daycares I visited when I was looking for care followed the school closing for snow. Very difficult winter for working parents. |
Yeah that makes sense. Maybe that's the main difference between my friend's daycare provider and mine. Anyway, it's not fit for man nor beast out there right now; this has been a heck of a winter in terms of snow days but I can't really complain about this one. I can only imagine how much ice is under that snow, considering all the rain we had yesterday. |

Infant Toddler Family Day homes follow Federal Government.

Our in-home daycare follows the Fairfax County Gov't closings, not the school closings. The schools close because it is unsafe for 180,000 children to be out on roads and sidewalks. That does not impact a daycare worker. The threshold for closing is much lower for schools.
However if the Fairfax County Gov't closes, that means the conditions are unsafe for adults to be driving out on the roads. |
| Remember that for family childcare providers with their own children, their children will be home when schools are closed, which might impact the # of children they can take care of - because their daycare children will be added to their own children that are staying all day, vs. only being home a few hours after school. |
| Our daycare follows DCPS closings |

Our in-home daycare followed Arlington Public Schools.
She did have a staff person some of the time, and she also had her own three children who would be home in that case. |
| We follow the FED |
| My daycare follows OPM - so if the federal government is closed so are they. It is great for us since our employers also follow the same policy. I would be screwed if they followed FCPS. |
