I'd appreciate knowing what plan you were on for 2013. I'm new to the fed govt and got my W2. It seems i'm paying an exorbitant amount of money for health insurance.
Thanks in advance! |

You can find charts on opm's site that show the premiums for every available plan:
http://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insurance/healthcare/plan-information/premiums/ Our plan was about $200 every two weeks (family). So $5200 for the year. |
| Oops-forgot to say that was for BCBS standard option. |
| All of the information you need is on OPM's website. |
|
Our BC/BS last year was roughly $5200, it's a family plan, doesn't matter if you have 1 or 10 children.
We just switched to GEHA basic and it's going to be just over half that for the year. |
|
It does seem like a lot consider our "wonderful" federal benefits doesn't it? Ha ha
We are a family of two and pay the same as a family of 10. Maybe I will check out GEHA per PP. |
| Switched from GEHA to BC a few years back b/c BC network was much better. Maybe not so now? |
Really? |
| Really. Half the world thinks we get free health care as feds. That's all I'm saying. |
It does look free compared to what many others pay! Its all relative. |
Are you fucking serious? Many people non-fed pay $1,000 a month! |
You're right its relative - I paid less before I was a fed. |
| My health insurance was free (individual coverage) in my last job before I became a Fed. |
Exactly. My husband is a fed and we've always insured the family through my job because the two private companies I've worked for since he's been a fed offer better options for far cheaper. My current company is saving us about $2k/year over what we would pay through the federal government. |
| I think the w-2 reflects total premiums, including what the feds paid for you plus your contribution. Check you last paystub for what you paid. |
