clothes for tall thin 5-yo boy?

| DS is 5, as tall as a 6-yo with the waist circumference of a 4-yo. Pediatrician says he is at the lowest allowable value of BMI. The kid eats plenty, just burns it off. Obviously he gets enough to grow. However I am having trouble finding pants for him - if I buy the right height, they are way too loose and big in the waist. The ones with adjustable waists create a balloon around his lower body. Any brands that will be more accommodating? I have tried Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree, brands sold at Kohl's, a few others. I have a few cords that work well but for everyday use he likes sweats and that's where we have problems even if I alter the waist with elastic... |

I have a very thin boy. I have had luck with slim sizes at LL Bean, Lands End and sometimes Gap and Old Navy (availability being the only problem I've had at times). Adidas athletic pants (not sure what the style is called- they are elastic waist, not adjustable, and available at Nordstrom) fit well. I was able to get size 7x in those pants- they are longer than regular 7s but with a size 7 waist. Not sure if they have the x in other sizes as well.
May I say that I love shorts season when pants aren't an issue? |

| I've tried a every pair of pants out there for my tall, skinny 6 year old. We settled on Levi's slim fit 514 in 8 slim. So it's already a slim fit jean that in addition has slim sizes. These are literally the only pants I've found that are long enough and have a small enough waiste. |

No idea - their wording. He is almost 49 inches tall and weighs 42 lb (41-41.5 on some days). To me he looks thin but healthy as opposed to emaciated. I think that's what they mean-any less weight and he'd be malnourished. |

| Speaking of European, I was headed that way. Anyone tried Boden or Hanna Andersson? For the amount of money, I don't feel like experimenting unless I stand a good chance of success. Unfortunately their size charts are by height and weight and he is clearly at least 3 lb less than the lower bound for the appropriate height (Hanna Andersson). |

Children's place runs narrow in my experience. Lots of adjustable pants but they aren't so big to start with, so less of that bubble you mentioned
