How is your child survivng with large class sizes

Anonymous
Finacially i am unsure if i can keep my child in private for first. However i am so concerned about the large class sizes i am hearing about on the forum. if your child is in a school that has large class sizes do you feel that your child is fine and they are adjusting or do you want to pull your child out and go private. Just need a little support. Thanks guys.

Hi there.

Every kid is different, but my son went to K in a class of 26. He is now almost twelve and doing swimmingly. I firmly believe that smaller classes are better, but he had a terrific teacher who had an aid in Kindergarten, and was able to handle the bigger classes afterwards.

DD is in a K class of 27. No aide. She's ok because she already knows how to read and write, so she pretty much does worksheets all day. She gets basically no attention from the teacher since she is busy working with the large group of ESOL kids. It's not ideal. She's getting socialization at school and that's pretty much it. It's fine for the earliest grades as she's not unhappy, but we'll likely be pulling her for private down the road. Might give the TAG center a try in 2nd if the lottery works out, but we're tentatively planning to move her to her older sister's independent school for 3rd.

We are in Bowie, and had small (19) class sizes at Yorktown Elementary last year. Not sure where you are located but there are still some schools out there with smaller class sizes.

My daughter is doing very well. She knows how to behave in class and pays attention. Her Pre-K teacher prepped her well for kindergarten. Her K teacher doesn't have an aid but seems to still keep up with her kids, not a ton of self learning from what I see. Her girlfriend is having challenges b/c she came from a daycare environment where she was one of 5 and now with so many kids she is having minor behavior problems like talks alot, doesn't listen, etc.
