I received the new catalog and noticed that they are now using Sherwin Williams paints instead of Benjamin Moore.
While I've never been impressed with the quality of Pottery Barn products, I always thought they were a triumph of marketing. But they seem to be getting tacky. Lots of fake flowers, designs a little off, just not as crisp as they once were. Has anyone else noticed this? |
Everything is mid-century modern now, so yeah their designs look a little off. |
I was disappointed with the SW choice, definitely not as good quality as BM.
And like you, not impressed with the new 2014 catalogs (actually Fall '13 wasn't anything new either). |
I think their delivery fees for furniture are outrageous. Competitors like C&B and R&B just charge a flat fee of $80-$90. PB charges based on the amount you spend plus they usually tack on another $100 "surcharge". I would have to really love something to buy it from PB. |
I think they dropped the BM partnership a couple of years ago. I love PB and like the catalogs for inspiration, especially for my summer house, but I do find when I go to the store I don't actually like anything. Most of the items I've bought have been good quality.
All the home sores seem to be having trouble. Williams Sonoma (same group as PB) apparently had a bad 4th quarter and shuttered some of the outlets. PB seems to be closing stores (although they just opened in mazza gallerie, across the street from their old store, but this one is a replacement for the white flint store.) |
The constant drivel about Benjamin Moore paint despite it not being rated that high by consumer testing groups gives me BM, talk of BM gives me a BM. |
What an elegant post! |

Pottery Barn = 1990's |
Hahahaha! I don't know why I found the above exchange hysterical. I must be really tired. I love you, DCUM. |
I want an Apothecary table!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TImaPtHBZng Yeah, very 90s. |
Yeah, but "mid century as interpreted for the masses"'is already done, too. |
I don't understand. Is Pottery Barn mid-century modern and because everyone is doing the look, it makes them look off because others are doing it better? (says the person who doesn't know what mid-century modern is and doesn't have time to school herself on design!) thanks! |
I think she meant that others, like Crate & Barrel, are MCM. But that's why I like pottery barn. I like traditional furniture. If I want MCM there are lots of places to go. I have a colonial style house so MCM furniture wouldn't look right in it. |
Pottery Barn depresses me. As in, I actually feel sad after looking through the catalog. Everything in there is large, generic, and overpriced. And it reminds me of the mid-1990s. |
