Got my son's NNAT score today, he's a first grader here in FCPS. 132. Does this mean anything? I hear people talking about a pool, but then there is also another test in second grade?
Also, what are the rules? We have him in a language immersion program and would probably not move him to a different school for AAP even if it is offered eventually. But if it is offered and we don't do it, does that shut him out for middle school and high school? Or is AAP just a elementary school thing? Sorry, I did try searching the board for info on this but so many of these threads just go off the rails it is hard to learn these basic facts. Be gentle. |
| The pool is determined in second grade after they take the FXAT. In the past, a 132 on the NNAT or any section of the FXAT has been the cutoff score for in pool. If your DC is in pool that doesn't automatically mean he will be found eligible. If found eligible your DC can start AAP at any year up thru 8th grade. There is no AAP in high school. If in pool and not found eligible, you can appeal. If not in pool, you can parent refer. Parent referrals are considered at the same time as in pool. Those found eligible, whether parent referred or in pool, are treated the same. |

A 132 should get you in the pool based on the past few years experience. However, most think the CoGAT/FxAT score carries more weight (taken in second grade). A good teacher recommendation is also essential for admittance to AAP.

humble brag *cough* humble brag |
| OP here. Not sure how mentioning the immersion program is a humble brag. It is part of the FCPS immersion program - we got in through a lottery. Doesn't make my kid a genius. |
So what? Just stuff it bitter person. |
| OP, please go to the AAP webpage on the FCPS site. All of the info is on there. Do not trust an anonymous message board. |
| Do the classroom teachers see copies of the scores? |
| What is the cut off score...does a 118 eliminate my child completely? |
Cut off score is not determined until next year after FxAT results are in, but usually around 132. If your DC does well on the FxAT and gets a good GBRS, a 118 on the NNAT doesn't eliminate him/her. |
