Have a child at a competitive traditional private high school who is unable to manage the heavy workload and needs something different. Bright kid with no LDs, no behavior problems, just some motivational issues and probably at this point some depression/lack of self esteem. Looked at the Nora School website and it may be a good possiblity. Anything else out there? DC or Maryland.
field school or burke.
I guess Field and Burke are "alternative" as compared to SFS/GDS/STA/NCS, but they are pretty mainstream in terms of work load, etc. Nora really is alternative. I would also look at Parkmont. If you're in Virginia, GW Community School is a possibility.
Howard Gardner or the New School of Northern VA might also be worth a look if you are in VA. I have not visited there but know students for whom they have been good options.
Emerson?
Thank you! Great suggestions here!
School for Tomorrow might also be worth a look. Just like 16:24 I don't have first hand experience, but it was apparently a good fit for the child of a friend who sounds a lot like your DC.
OP I am 16:24 -- sorry I didn't see DC or MD. Depending on where you are, Howard Gardner might work, as lots of kids take metro. We know a MD family there. Sorry for the oversight!
