I’m wondering if anyone here has taken the time to research and develop a nutritional plan for their teen who plays sports at a high level, and whether you could share your routine or recommend good resources if so. Our family eats pretty healthily overall. We don’t have much junk food around, and our kids are happy to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains (not that we eat perfectly all the time, by any means). Different coaches have made different (and sometimes conflicting) recommendations through the years, but I’ve never done the research to figure out ideal daily carb/protein/fat ratios or minimum calorie needs and develop meal plans based on that info.
Perhaps there is no need to put too much effort into this given that the kids seem healthy and able to perform well, but I’d be curious about any thoughts. I’m particularly interested in recommendations for a meal and snack plan leading up to and during multi-day tournaments. |
