speech therapist who come home

Anonymous
We've been taking our 2-year for ST at a center in NoVa, but it's just not working for our child who seems to have a negative reaction each visit. Somehow, just being in that center environment is simply not working.
We're now thinking of looking for someone who can come home to do private ST.
Have you worked with an experienced ST who offers in-home services and with whom you saw results?
Can you please share the contact info?
Thank you so much!!

I don't know where you live in NoVA but Progressive Therapy Group in Ashburn used to provide such a service. I haven't used them in over a year, so it's better to check.

We live in Springfiled/Alexandria area. I talked to the owner at Progressive and she said they do not come out this far.

We don't live in VA, but when we did early intervention the ST came to our house. Can you go through the county?

Early Intervention Theraposts have to come to your house or daycare (or somewhere else in the community) because they have to see your kid in his natural environment. If you don't go through EI then you might have to hire someone privately to come see your kid after their regular job.

You can go through early intervention if your child qualifies. Your child will need to stop with them at age 3 and transition to Child Find/public schools. Call now to schedule an eval since they often are booked well in advance for evals.

Your county's Early Intervention likely has this as an option. Also, places like Skillbuilders offer this as an option, but you pay more for it.

We already have a ST from early interventipon come to our house. The ST seems inexperienced and our experience with her has been underwhelming. We want to supplement that with private ST.

I would ask to change EI therapists.

This. Don't be surprised if they tell you that you are the only parent to ever request this. I got that rude response too, but I was connected enough with other parents of kids with SN that I knew it was bullshit. They have to give you someone new and there are good people in EI, it's just hard to find them.
