Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
After 11 mos, the small things I have been doing (wiping down with antibacterial wipes, baking soda box on bottom) do not seem to be working anymore. I really like the Diaper Champ so don't want to use another disposal method -- would rather buy a new one if need be. Any suggestions from others who use or have used the Diaper Champ? Thanks.
Try some lysol. Spray it on inside and out, and let it sit for maybe 15 minutes, then wipe with a wet cloth or wipe. You can also let it air out outside after that. But the lysol should probably take care of it.

We've had to replace ours at about 11 months

i leave it open overnight after emptying, and use those scented trash bags. i never have lingering odor problems, for 2 yrs now.
I threw mine away after about 15 months or so. I tried everything to get the smell out but nothing worked so I wrapped up the smelly diapers in plastic bags and threw them outside in the trash.
I used to spray mine each time I changed the bag, and that worked. But I'm not sure how to get 11 months of funk out of it.
Yeah I wipe mine down with an antibacterial wipe and then spray it down with scented lysol. I just started using the scented trashbags too but I didnt notice that big a difference. I really wish I could find those stick on airfreshners that I remember from my grandmother's house.

Had the Diaper CHamp and it got SO gross. Diaper Genie is SOOOOO much better. And the inserts are worth every penny to not have to deal with the stink of the Diaper Champ.
If it were warmer out, I'd say air it out outside, in the sunshine.
If you still have the instructions, there is a section on taking it a part and how to clean tips. Can't remember specifics right now, but I do remember that it's in the booklet (and maybe online?).
Bleach.
You are right, it's on line. It just says use household soap/detergent to wipe down, and dry completely. http://www.babytrend.com/download/2007061214274100_new_instructions.pdf |
I tried bleach and left it in the sun to dry/air out. It worked for the short term but ultimately, we ended up putting it in the garage. Also tied the stinky diapers up in old plastic grocery bags before depositing.
