Do private schools offer more internship opportunities than public schools?

DD will be a senior next year and we are already discussing having DD find one for this summer. If you have older kids where did they get one through the school, by you the parent, or on their own?

A lot of schools have an alumni office that can be helpful in giving the students contact info for internships. It's worth asking your development/alumni people.

My DC goes to public school and interned on Capitol Hill one summer. A combination of parent connections and student efforts. Our school has lots of connection to NIH and many kids work there in the summer. Many seniors also do internships as part of the curriculum, usually in the afternoons. The school has many intern opportunities for the kids to consider and regularly solicits the parent community for ideas and placements. The intern experience was a great one for my DC and I think won't hurt on the resume both for college and future jobs, particularly as it was in an area of career interest and ties well with other volunteer activities and coursework. You should definitely look into it for your DC.
