| We plan to visit these schools (party of 2), what hotel should we stay? Bare bones and clean is sufficient criteria as long as its close to the schools. |

In Madison- Downtown/University area :
Hilton Madison Monona Terrace The Wisconsin Union Hotel(on campus) Hyatt Place Madison Downtown Madison Concourse Hotel Hotel Red If you have a car you stay in Middleton(west side of Madison) It is about a 15 minute drive down University Ave to the campus. nice area but might be less expensive: Hilton Garden Inn -Middleton Staybridge Suites-Middleton Country Inn and Suites -Middleton Courtyard Madison West-Middleton Residence Inn Madison West-Middleton |

For OSU - any of these: http://www.hotels-rates.com/hotels/locations/Columbus/OH/usa/1384/
I would skip the Varsity Inn. The Blackwell is on campus and is pretty nice (at the business school; you could walk everywhere). |

I have stayed at the Hyatt Place the last few times I went to Columbus. It is a 5 - 10 min drive to campus.
I've also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Olentangy River Rd. It is close to campus also but I prefer Hyatt Place. Any of the hotels on Olentangy River Rd will be close to campus. |
I wouldn't stay in Middleton. If money is really an issue, the chains where the highways cross just east of the city will be cheaper than middleton and closer to the airport. |
Blackwell's location can't be beat, but may be too expensive. Holiday Inn on Lane Ave is a pretty good location too, and may be more moderately priced. |
| Maybe inquire if they have special rates for families visiting colleges. Ask the schools and the hotels. |
Yes. You could walk from Lane Ave, too. Basically just one street over from campus. |
| OP,I would rather walk |
