SG, GW, Dr. Littman?? Good care? Lesbian friendly?

Anonymous
Hello,

I am new to the DC area and looking into endocrinologist, fertility doctors, GYNs in the area. We have friends that had good luck at Dominion Fertility but, they don't seem to be in our health insurance network.

My prior history, testing, diagnosis with my old RE and treatment history 7 failed IUIs, 1 IVF cycle canceled due to poor response, 1 IVF resulting in a chemical preg (5 eggs produced, 2 day 3 embryos implanted.) All of our prior testing, monitoring & treatment was out of pocket. We didn't think we would really be able to try again due to the costs.
But then we moved and found out my wife's new company has pretty good health insurance that covers some fertility treatment. It is our understanding that we have a high chance of our insurance paying for IVF without needing to meet the 6-12 months of 'trying'. I hope so because 35 is soon approaching and we will only get 3 IVF cycles with our insurance!

So, has experienced positive or negative treatment at these clinics and/or with specific doctors at these clinics or others????

I don't need hand holding through the process but explaining things is a must. I want a honest doctor & clinic that are on top of the process and don't miss a beat! I do need a doctor/ clinic that will diagnose & treat any underlying issues possibly causing the fertility issues. I would rather take the time to do it right then just 'hope' it works. I don't want to be pushed into trying treatments we've done before or natural cycle IVF. I also have a BMI of 28% I am working on losing more weight but have heard some DC clinic will turn people away if they are over weight.

Thanks for the feed back!

I think dr frankfurter at GW sounds like a good match for you. I would set up a consultation with him and go over your past and see what he proposes and then see how u feel about it. I think he is a fantastic doctor who is definitely on top of things. Especially if you convey that you want more communication and want to know all the details. I have reached him after hours many times. When any kind of issue arose he was very thorough with me. And he seems to genuinely care which is so nice and rare! I know you didn't ask about that but I think that makes a big difference.

Brian at GW is awesome with billing and insurance and will work with your insurance company to get things covered. I think because they are part of GW MFA then they can run a lot of things through insurance that don't seem fertility related (that was my experience). Obviously an egg retrieval procedure is a fertility procedure but lots of the preliminary testing can be put under other categories if that makes sense. Meet with Brian if you go for a consultation.

I have no experience with being a lesbian but I can't imagine dr F having any issue or judgement about that. He is very normal and kind. Yet professional and stays on top of things. He also makes thorough notes for your records.
