Sea Colony West v. Bear Trap Dunes

Anonymous
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether to stay at Sea Colony West (not the beach front large buildings) or Bear Trap Dunes in Bethany for a week in summer? We would rent a 2-bedroom condo. We have two kids - 2 and 5 - and enjoy tennis, bike riding, and golf. We aren't huge beach people but will go a couple of times. I know that Sea Colony West is closer to the beach, larger, and older. Which resort is better for the kids? Is there any shade at Bear Trap - the pictures don't show any trees or foliage? Thanks for any input.

If you want trees, Sea Colony is better. My beach house is near Bear Trap Dunes, but not in it, so I don't know anything about the resort itself. But it's new, with few old trees. And in that area, the indigenous trees are pretty short and scrubby anyway.

I go biking all around the area on the little, flat country roads, and pop out onto Roxana Blvd. to go to Hockers all the time. It's a "superstore" with a grocery store/hardware store combination, but it has a cute little ice cream shop too that kids like.

If I had to choose, I'd probably choose Sea Colony West which is kid-friendly, with cute little walking/bike paths, and lots of canals and ducks to see. It's also part of old Bethany, which is shady and bike friendly. You can also bike/walk easily with young kids to the boardwalk and the little shops there. I do bike the 2 miles from my house to the beach, but only have one child in a trailer. So I have no clue how easy it would be with two.

Sea Colony. Indoor pools at beach front, tram like a train of golf carts to beach, kids functions. Why not stay at Sea Colony East once? My children loved the beach more than pools at this age and it was great for digging. Easier at the beach than a pool.
