BCBS Fed Standard out-of-network coverage

Anonymous
Does anyone have experience using an out-of-network doc with BCBS federal (standard plan)? On the website, it says that once the deductible is met, an office visit, for example, could cost you $185. Is the coverage really that minimal?

Not sure of specifics with your plan, but yes, out of network coverage is generally minimal to incentivize you to use an in network provider.

They pay some percentage of the BCBS standard rate for the service/visit, but the provider can charge you whatever he/she wants. You pay the provider in full, and BCBS sends you a check for their portion of what they think the rate should be.
