We are considering buying in this area, and would be sending our child to Flora M. Singer. Would love to hear thoughts on experiences with the school. Thanks! |
Everyone loves it. Seriously, do a search and you will see. When it opened, it pulled kids from Oakland Terrace, which is also a very popular school. |

Here's the at a glance info. New building, new team, lots of energy. People seem to like it. Just don't call it Flora. Or Singer. |
We love, love, love it.
Extremely diverse and friendly community. Very active parent community. Teachers and administration are helpful and open ( in my experience). Great PTA, tonite there is a PTA meeting focused on how math is taught. Teachers will be there to do do small group 'instruction/info' Kids After Hours is the aftercare and we love them beyond words. My kid prefers not being picked up early from KAH. Lots of extracurriculars. Did I mention that we love it? LOL! |
Singer is fine. Flora is not. ![]() |
We love it too! Well organized, great teachers, beautiful facilities and a wonderful community. |
It is outstanding. I'm sure there's something wrong with the school, but at the end of the 2nd year there I couldn't tell you what it is. Our child is in 2nd grade - we started in K at Oakland Terrace - also outstanding but not a brand new facility. Maybe it's that it feeds to Sligo MS? But they have a new principal there and I hear/hope things are on an upswing. I would absolutely buy into the area again (and again, and again), and the quality of the school is a major contributor to us considering renovation over moving. |
Ha ha! This came back ![]() Singer or Flora Singer. In the MCPS email alert system it's listed under Singer ![]() |
We also haven't found anything wrong with the school. It's much better for both special needs and gifted students than many other MCPS schools. |
Question for all you Singer parents... Do you have plans for middle and high school? Are you planning on public or private? If private, which ones are popular? We live in this area and love it, but are nervous about middle and high school (which I have heard both good and bad things about). |
We are not worried about high school. MS option is improving. |
I am not worried about MS or High School. |
Current Singer parent thanking 11:19 and 13:37 for your posts. They are reassuring. Are there specific strengths you see in the MS and HS options we feed to? |
Einstein and Sligo are smaller than many other schools. Class sizes at Sligo are particularly small. Teachers and admin know all the students. Einstein has an IB program. Both schools are improving and Einstein is already very good. |
I am 13:37 and I will be perfectly honest. To me the biggest asset is the elementary school student body and parent community. If the majority of the engaged students and families go on to the MS and HS I think things will continue to improve. I am not a nervous nellie parent, and I understand that MCPS is not perfect but is still better than many, many other school districts across the country. |
