Hello! I am a patient at Physicians & Midwives where they don't do ultrasounds, but rather refer you out to get one (in my case, to Assoc. of Alex. Radiologists). I am wondering what to expect. Will they give me info about how the baby is measuring, if there are any problems, etc. or do they report that type of stuff to my dr. who discusses it with me at my next appt? Will I get a picture? Thanks alot! |
I can't speak to that specific practice, but I also had to go to another office for my ultrasounds. For both of my kids, the tech came in first and did all the measurements without really giving me details. After all the measurements were done, she had the radiologist come in to look things over and he was the one who told me all was OK. He also told me the sex of the baby (boys both times). So it was a little nervewracking waiting for him to give me the results, but it would have been worse if I had had to wait for my OB to go over it with me at the next appt. Make sure you ask for pictures because with my first I didn't get one! Good luck! |
Not sure if that's the same place I went (it's been a while) but I was a P&M patient and was happy with the ultrasound I had. Usually they'll point out what they're looking at as they go, and will tell you how you're measuring. My son always measured big! I never had any problems (the being big was of some concern, but not a scary one) so I can't speak to that. |
I'm a P&M patient and went to the same ultrasound place. My only ultrasound so far was really early on to make sure I didn't miscarry (I was spotting) and the woman who performed the ultrasound told us the thumping sound we heard is the heartbeat, the fetus was measuring normally, and everything looked good. We also got 2 pictures too. One was just a picture with no markings on it, the 2nd one had a ruler to show how long the fetus was at the time. |
With me, they never told me much of anything -- liability, I guess. The u/s techs are not trained to diagnose/interpret the images... although I'm sure they can tell a fair number of things. They would point out body parts here and there and usually answered my questions. They usually offer pictures, but you should ask to be sure they give you some. I think it depends a lot on the personality of the tech you get. |
