Rocking Chairs vs. Gliders

Anonymous
I am expecting and in the process of furnishing the nursery. What do people prefer, a wooden rocking chair or a glider? Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

a bed! Seriously, I had a rocker before but realized I felt most comfortable nursing in the middle of the night lying down and having the baby beside me. I would them put the baby back in the crib after the feeding.

If you don't have room for a bed in the nursery too, get a glider that does a full recline. But I preferred having a bed at night.

I have both and I prefer the glider - easier for me to 'rock'/glide and if you have the foot stool that glides also you can recline. have your feet up and still 'glide'. The recliner has more room and is nice with DS as he has gotten bigger for reading before bed. But at least mine stops rocking iwth feet elevated and although I am normal size (5'5")- my feet don't quite touch the ground.

I have been perfectly happy with a wooden rocker (without cushioning) that we got at Target for like 100 bucks. It's very comfortable and I must have logged hundreds -- if not thousands -- of hours in it by now. My son is now almost 2, and I still rock and sing to him in it every night. So, if you're looking for a place to save $, I'd encourage you to try the plain rocker.

Kids are 4 and 2, and I still love our Dutailier glider. I'm sure there are comfortable rockers, too. Comfort is the key! I had bought a cheap (second-hand) glider while pregnant but realized after a day or so that it wasn't appealing to me then, and I just wasn't going to find it more any more comfortable once the baby arrived. Tried gliders in the store and found one that I didn't want to get out of, so that's the one we bought.

I do like the gliding ottoman (with slide-out nursing stool), too, but it was never as essential to me as the glider itself. (Wooden nursing stools can be bought individually, too, at baby gear stores.)

Neither. A lazy boy/recliner was far more useful (I had an oversized glider chair from BBB). The lazy boy was bigger, reclined w/feet up, and allowed me to nurse easier and sleep w/baby.
