I've read the old posts on this school but it seems there has been a new principal in recent years. Most people thought it was a good school but then others felt that with the various learning abilities within the class the brighter kids weren't receiving enough attention (paraphrasing what I've read). Can someone please comment on if this is a good school in 2013/2014? Moving into the area and missed the magnet testing dates. Most apartments are zoned for SSI and not Takoma Park MS so to find something affordable it looks like it zoned for SSIMS. Please help! TIA. |
We live in a neighborhood zoned for SSI and several neighbor kids go there and are very happy.
It's a big and very diverse school but they've found nice groups of kids and have done well. I think it would be fine. |
One thing about SSIMS vs. TP is that I think SSIMS is under threat of losing it's 8 block schedule, which I think TP still has. I saw SSIMS parents protesting the loss of the 8 block at the BoE meeting, but I don't know what the end result was.... |
I am pretty sure the 8 block schedule at SSIMS was maintained. I don't have a kid there, but I saw some buzz on my neighborhood listserv about it. This just happened in the last week or so. |
This is true -- they just announced they are keeping the block schedule. |
If you are looking for an apartment building in downtown Silver Spring zones for TPMS, Silver Spring Towers on Thayer Avenue fits the bill. |
it is a very nice school. the immersion programs sometimes feel like a school within a school but the the rest of school is actually getting much better. |
