Does anyone have any experiences to share? I have a 1YO and have had paraguard for 6+ months(sidenote: I've never been able to feel strings, but obgyn says it is fine). I just ordered a diva cup and didn't realize that it's not recommended to use with an IUD. I guess the suction can pull it out? I've read to be sure you break the seal before removing and make sure strings are short, but I was wondering if anyone had firsthand experience to share. Thanks!
I have Paraguard and use a Lunette cup. Ive never had ANY issues. And with the Paraguard causing heavier bleeding, the cup is the only thing that prevents me from looking like a massacre victim every month. I love my lunette.
Thanks for sharing! I feel like diva and lunette are pretty similar, so hopefully it will be fine. I'm hoping the heavier periods stop soon! Luckily mine used to be very light, so it's not too crazy now. How long have you had your paraguard?
I'm using a diva + paragard right now actually, and have for 2.5 years. I can feel the strings and still no issues.
Thanks. Part of what worried me is that I've never been able to feel the strings so I'm afraid that I wouldn't notice if it came out? My OB checked it and said it was fine even though I couldn't feel the strings. |
If it came out , it would be in your cup, or you'd be in really bad pain, right? Not to be morbid , but it isn't like you'd miss it , right?
The strings are, or used to be, 2 pieces twisted together. If they come untwisted, it's not uncommon for them to get lost in the folds of tissue. If it were slip, you would certainly notice the pain as it may possibly perforate the uterus. I had Paragard 17 yrs ago and used a similar cup called Instead. At the time, Diva cup wasn't on the market, at least not that I was aware of. Instead cups were much smaller and removing them was just pulling on the lip of the cup, not much suction involved.
I have only gotten my period twice since getting my Mirena, but have used my diva cup without issue. Just break the seal before pulling it out
