Tics and television? Related?

Anonymous
My 5 yr old DD has developed motor tics (mostly of the face - blinking, eyebrow raising, grimacing) over the past three weeks. My husband has Tourette's so we're pretty worried. DH found some blog that said tv is a trigger for tics and he wants to ban tv entirely - our kids watch 20-40 minutes a day, so it's not a huge amount. My understanding is that tics come out during television watching bc the person is entirely relaxed, but DH thinks there is a causal relationship.

Any thoughts on which one of us is correct?

He read it on the Internet so it must be true? Really?

What does his neurologist say?

My DS's tics were worst when he was watching tv, riding in the car, or listening to stories - in other words, when he was totally relaxed.

Read Dr. Jane Healy if you want to learn research based data. She's done the best work with these questions.
