| Seems risky. |
| Of course. If you don't trust your attorney get another one but this is sop. |
| No, OP, I wouldn't do that either. |
| Aren't your checking account numbers on your checks rtc anwuay? It's not like that info is too secret. |
| This is a new attorney, so we don't have a relationship with him already. They provided a form to me to fill out to list all assets, who holds them, account numbers and dollar amounts, etc. Retirement, savings, everything! And of course ss#. It is a not a one person firm, they appear to have been around for awhile. Last time I did a will whcih was over 10 years ago, I don't recall providing this info. I don't think the attorney will do anything malicious, but what if someone else in their office gets a hold of this info? |
| I am trying to get my dad to do a list of assets. I think it is pretty basic estate planning. If you are worried, maybe list the banks but not the numbers? |
| I just had my will drawn up and the lawyer never asked for that info |
|
What? Of course. And you are supposed to keep it updated.
I suppose you could make the sheet and put it in your safe and give the attorney a key…you have to make this info available to whomever takes over when you die. |
|
I would just ask them why they want it.
Account numbers are completely unnecessary for actually writing the will (technically amounts are as well, but that is at least relevant information they may want to consider), but if they are putting together some instructions for the executor it can be very helpful to have a list of all account numbers (but there's no reason you couldn't put that list together yourself). |
| No need to provide financial info to attorney just for Will. |
Duh. Never understand why people think their bank account number is classified. |
