| Curious... are private schools making up any of these snow days? I know public schools are required to make them up but what about the privates? It'll be great to know the school and if they are or are not making up days. Do you feel the school has a fiduciary duty to make up some of these days? It'll be great to know other people's thoughts... thank you! |
| I wish! I don't think they do though. |
| Usually extra days are built into the calendar. We have only had 3 so far though. |
| Ours is now making up 2 days. |
|
We are a parochial and we do make up the days. We had 3 built in and, before this week, had used up all of them. That means we now have 2 to make up.
If we get past TEN to make up, the Diocese forgives it, but I doubt we will go that far! So, I bet we'll be adding on days at the end. (This is Arlington Diocese.) |
| OP, why do you care? You sound like my friend who kept emphasizing that private school kids don't get the Maryland official graduation diploma - as if that matters. |
|
OP here... we are new to a private school in the area and I was trying to figure out if most private schools make up missed days or not. I understand if 3 or so days are not made up but when you get to 6-7 days, is it normal when you pay 30k+ for a school, that the days are dismissed?
If other schools do not make up days, then perhaps I shouldn't let it bother me. |
| We've only missed 3 so far, so no make ups yet. I firmly believe that if we exceed the limit, then schools should make up days. For $30K a year, our children deserve to go to school. If other parents want to keep their kids out b/c they had a trip planned, etc, that's fine. But schools should definitely make up days at some point. |
| Yes, making up three days. |
|
I wonder whether private schools automatically make up fund raising days/events?
Do they take the same reflex approach with missed school days due to weather? |
| i don't think my kid's school makes them up...have not heard anything about it. |
| Flint Hill does not make them up. |
| Our school eliminated an upcoming professional development day and made it a regular school day. |
| OP, I'm not sure you understand the concept of "fiduciary duty". |
| The best scenario is probably replacing a professional day with a school day. In terms of adding on days in June, at the high school level at least, it is well after AP exams, so there's a sense it is more done for show and not for a real educational purpose. |
