| I lost my last job while going through chemotherapy for breast cancer. It was because the entire business shut down, not because of my cancer. I have two surgeries ahead of me, and they will be spread out over six months. Is it prudent to go looking for work now? Should I let them know that I will need time off for surgery? Things are getting tight, but I don't think I am ready to back quite yet. |
| Honestly, this doesn't really sound like a financial question. If you don't feel ready yet, don't go back. If you do feel ready, I would not worry about annoying folks by taking time off for surgery. I would personally not tell potential employer about the issue until I had a job offer, and would not feel guilty about it. Best of luck! |
| Apply for unemployment and take a break. |

Also maybe apply for government jobs. At least you should be able to take FMLA without too many issues. But you don't sound ready to go back to work.
Is it possible to make a lifestyle change (e.g.taking in a roommate, moving in with family, selling a car) to reduce your financial stress during this time? |
