I read that a baby shouldn't wear a bunting in his/her car seat, and we've got lots of swaddle blankets etc., but I'm not sure we have anything warm that is appropriate for outdoors. I'd be curious what all of the Winter moms are planning to dress their babies in when they leave the hospital. I imagine we'll only be leaving the house for pediatrician visits, and not walks, during the first few months so I haven't given a lot of thought to clothes that are appropriate for outside. any advice is much appreciated. |
I registered for and just got a bundleme - - so my plan was to put him in the carseat and use that. Add a hat to every outfit also. |
I had a Feb baby 3 yrs ago and am due with another Feb baby soon. With baby #1 we just put her in layers and brought blankets to the car. Also, like pp said use hats. We had several outfits that had the onsies, the pants and the button down cotton jackets or the fleece long-sleeve/long-pants outfits with a onsie underneath. We were also told not to put too thick of layers on the baby while in the car seat. We covered the baby with blankets while in the car and tried to heat the car up before going out. Once out of the hospital we had to take baby#1 to the ped's every other day for weight checks, so we were out frequently in the snow. |
You will put the baby in the carseat before leaving the hospital. Have dad or someone else get the car warmed up and just take the baby in the carseat (I did this on my lap in the wheelchair) with a normal outfit on, covered in balnkets, and wearing a hat, out to the car. You can take some of the blankets off if you want once you get the baby in the warm car. |
My sister had a Nov baby, and he pretty much wore only fleece sleepers for his first six months. She'd put a long-sleeve onesie and socks on underneath, then into the bundle me on the carseat, with hat. |
BUNDLE ME! The best! |
one-piece footie pajamas. that's what DD wore for, like, the first 6 months. pile on blankets as needed. don't worry, they won't freeze -- think about all the babies in Minnesota... Winnipeg... Alaska... Iceland... ![]() |
