When does morning sickness start?

Anonymous
I am 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant and have no morning sickness. Since I don't have any morning sickness now, does that mean that I will never get morning sickness or could it come later? When does morning sickness usually start?

TIA

I had is very bad with #1, did not have any with #2 and now well into the 2nd trimester with #3 I still have it. I think it depends on the person. If you are going to get it then it will start soon!

OP here. To 12:07: when you did have morning sickness, how many weeks pregnant were you when it started? Thanks.

I was probably around 8 weeks. It got very bad around 12 weeks and has not gone away.

I started vomiting at exactly 6 weeks with both of my pregnancies. With baby #1, I didn't stop throwing up until the day I delivered. I joked in the hospital that being in labor wasn't so bad since I stopped throwing up.

With baby #2 I am now 32 weeks and the vomiting has stopped for the most part. I still get sick about 1x/wk in the morning or middle of the night, but nothing like the last pg. I took Zofran with both pg's and never stopped with pg #1, but have stopped with this pg. It's so darn expensive.

I am pregnant with my first and started vomiting around 7 weeks. I wouldn't vomit every day but was pretty sick to my stomach starting at 1:00pm each day until I went to sleep. Felt great in the mornings, though! SO much for "morning" sickness.

It ended around week 14.

My "morning" sickness hit mainly around bedtime and it started at around 7-8 weeks. Mine was mainly just nausea--I only threw up twice, but dry-heaved quite a bit between 10-13 weeks, and then it was gone.

Hi there OP, I was very much "you" about 5 weeks ago and asked the same exact question on another forum. At 4 weeks I started feeling the very faintest twinges of nausea, but they were so faint I sort of questioned whether or not "this was it."

I was mainly getting the famous toothbrush gag and I got markedly nauseated (but no throwing up) the morning of my doctor's visit to confirm the pregnancy (could have also been nerves!). At 5 weeks, I felt much the same. At 6 weeks, my parents visited -- both heavy smokers. While they didn't smoke around me or in the house, when we'd get into the car to go anywhere the stale smoke made me feel very nauseated, but no throwing up. Again, still very mild. In the meantime, people on this other forum were in the throes of morning sickness by week 6 so I started feeling like "either I dodged a bullet or something is wrong."

Fast forward to week 7. I woke up one day, ate breakfast, and about an hour later had this terrible feeling of nausea -- I did not throw up, but it was truly debilitating. Moving in any way felt like death. In the evening I had several bouts of dry heaving, but no actual vomiting. Week 8 was the same or worse -- every day heavy, severe nausea but no throwing up. It was all I could do to get myself up and showered and riding in a car (especially as a passenger) made my nausea much worse. I stopped cooking and my husband took over, but even that was gross to me. He made jumbalaya one night and I couldn't face the fridge for days after that because of the "intense" smell. (Which he couldn't even smell).

By week 9, which I understand is when most women's nausea peaks (at least, the hormones are usually peaking, which translates to symptoms) I was actually getting a little bit better, with a few good days mixed in with mostly bad days. Now at week 10 my nausea has gone back to moderate. I would have said mild, but today and yesterday have been bad. I'm definitely having more good days than bad now. Evenings are always bad, particularly so if I didn't sleep well the night before. BTW, I never once actually vomited during my bouts with nausea, but like so many others will tell you, I sometimes wished I would just hurl, already, and get it over with.

For me, I found that eating protein in the morning was a must. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and roasted chicken sandwiches (I got the vacuum packed lunchmeat as my OB is concerned with listeria in deli meat). Saltines made me feel worse but are a life saver for so many others.

this may be more than you ever wanted to know, but I hope it helps. I know that before I got my nausea I was very confused because almost everything out there says if it's going to happen, it starts happening at week 6. It was not that way for me. I hope you are one of the lucky ones who don't ever get the nausea. My mom barely had any and many of my friends had only minimal nausea or none at all. If you do wind up with nausea, I hope yours is as short-lived as mine has been. While I've felt excrutiatingly sick for a few weeks, I'll take a few weeks over 2 months any day! Best of luck to you and cheers to enjoying your pregnancy.

I never had any morning sickness. I kept waiting and waiting and it just never happened. But I was sensitive to certain odors though. My mother doesn't remember having any morning sickness either. My OB said some women just never get it. I had an awful delivery though!

No puking for me either, but I was nauseous quite a bit - starting at around 6 weeks. It lasted until around 10 weeks or so.

I did not get nauseous at all with either of my pregnancies.

Morning sickness (or "anytime of day" sickness) rears its ugly head between 6-10 weeks. Some women experience it more-so than others (vomiting vs. just feeling nausea) and others are simply more tolerant of it.

Check past threads on how to deal with the morning sickness.

Keep in mind, it is actually a good sign to get morning sickness - it indicates your body is producing/releasing the hormones to sustain the baby's life and development.
