I am only in my 15th week and I'm already noticing swelling in my hands and feet. My rings are leaving deep indentations in my finger (I took them off) and my feet feel spongy. The swelling is mild but I didn't expect it so early. Has anyone else experienced early swelling? I have a doctor's appointment in a few weeks and I'll mention it then but I'm curious in the meantime. |
I was swelling pretty early. I can't remember when but definitely during the second trimester. By 5 mo, I was buying new shoes and by 6 mo I had started wearing my wedding ring on a chain. I never asked my dr about it, but I attribute it to 2 things.
First, I have never been much of a drinker, and I'm not talking alcohol here. I can nurse a single 12 oz coke all day. So it was really an effort for me to drink a lot of liquid, but when I did it did help the swelling. The second thing is that during my second trimester I took 4 long-haul plane trips (3 to the west coast and once to Germany) and at least one 9-hr drive to my folks and back. The swelling was always worse after the traveling and could take some time to reduce. It was in Germany that I bought my first pair of pregnancy shoes. I don't know if any of that is helpful. Spend time each day with your feet up and try to drink lots of fluids. Good luck. ![]() |
drink, drink, drink and watch your sodium intake. both of these can cause early swelling. If you have any other symptoms -- severe headaches, seeing spots, peeing less -- call your doctor immediately. |
