| Moving there soon and looking for 'locals' recommendations. Just any food-drink related establishment that is good / popular. Looking for suggestions for going out to eat/drink, takeout, and dessert/coffee kind of spots. Thanks! |

Welcome to the Frozen Yogurt Capital of the world! If you have a taste for fro-yo, Peruvian chicken, burgers or pizza, you will do very well here. Alternatively, you can while away the hours (and hours, and hours...) at Mad Fox. Not eating, mind you, just waiting for your food/drinks/check/server.
-- Signed, frustrated FCC resident (who admits that Haandi, Curry Mantra and La Caraquena are delicious, and that Clare & Don's and Dogwood are good in a pinch, but who makes angry noises about the planning board and city council every time she's in the Mosaic District, thinking about what could have been...) |
Haha - oh no ... I'm moving from Dunn Loring/Merrifield! |
|
I agree, Mad Fox service is awful.
I do enjoy Clare & Don's, and Four ... Courts? Four Provinces? Can't keep my Irish places straight, sorry. |
|
I second the recs above for Curry Mantra and Haandi (for the weekend buffet) - although if you live in Merrifield you might have been to Jaipur which I think is better than either.
I personally like both Dogwood and Clare and Don's a lot. Both of them have good happy hour food specials and I especially like the patio and live music at C&D's in the warmer months. Dogwood Tavern also just built a big new outdoor seating area. Ireland's Four Provinces is a friendly pub and I also enjoy going there for trivia. For takeout, I like Meat in a Box kabob and Super Chicken has awesome Peruvian chicken. I also stop by Song Que in the the Eden Center for Vietnamese sandwiches and bubble tea. Luzmila's has great saltenas on the weekends for carryout, too. Of course, you must check out the Saturday year-round farmers market, which is a foodie event itself. I'm thrilled with the range of food options in FCC. To the resident who posted above, there is pretty much anything you could want within a 10-15 minute drive if not in the city itself. The Mosaic District is mostly chains and while it's gorgeous, I prefer the independent restaurants and bars that we have. |

Frustrated, over-froyo'd resident again. Not saying there aren't options (and I do love me some drinks at Dogwood). Just that I like being able to walk to a wider variety of restaurants that at least make some sort of effort (I'm looking at you, overpriced-Sfizi-who-runs-on-Italian-time.) Yes, you can drive a short ways to a whole bunch of delicious options. But I wish I could keep more of my dining dollars in the City.
Still, welcome all the same. I'm sure I'll see you at Elevation Burger/Super Chicken/Moby Dick/Famous Dave's at some point. And then perhaps we could all go for dessert. I know just the place... |
| Used to live right outside FCC and have moved to North Arlington, which is the land of pizza. The end. I miss all the diverse offerings in and around FCC! Some places that have not been mentioned: Blanca's next to Super Chicken is pretty awesome. Miu Kee at the intersection of Annandale and 50 is one of the best places for Chinese in Northern VA. Pizzeria Orso is also tasty, especially the small plates. |
| Eden Center! |
| Mountain Jacks for great steaks |
| There's always Anthony's (by the Post Office on Broad Street) and the Italian Cafe on Washington Street, just below Hillwood. |
Anthonys???? Really PP, where have you been it's being torn down next month, along with the old post office. It's been vacant for almost 9 months. Harris Teeter is coming to town, because we need more congestion in FCC. To the OP, I like Mad Fox, I've never had bad service there. Also in the same shopping center there is Koi Koi, which is pretty good. I've also heard Hoangs on Broad street is good, although I've never been. Lazy Sundae next to 7-11 is good for sandwhiches. Ariga's is also decent, although I haven't been in about a year or so. Caribbean Plate is also good on Annendale Rd in the strip where there is Dunkin Donuts. |
| Four Provinces (4Ps). Been going there since I moved back to nova in 98. That's our local. Crowd varies depending on night and who is playing at State Theater. I hate when Legwarmers play at State. Pub quiz on Wednesdays is very popular. Great bartenders. Live music in restaurant. TVs and jukebox in bar. Nice outdoor bar as well in warm weather. |
| Argia'a sucks since the original owners sold. It won't last much longer under current ownership |
Where is this? |
| YES to Caribbean Plate! I went there for the first time this winter--holy moley that is GOOD. Now I'm craving it, ughh..... |
