Roe v Wade struck down

Tom Bonier tweeted on December 14, 2023: “In case anyone needs more evidence that abortion rights is the most potent mobilizing force in politics:

Turnout in Ohio’s election this year (with abortion rights on the ballot) was 95% of the 2022 general election.

Turnout among women under the age of 50 was 113% 2022 levels.

There are 657.036 Ohioans who voted in the ‘23 Nov election who did not vote in the ‘22 Nov election. Those voters are +14 women.”

The GOP will keep abusing their idiot voters with the immigration issue, but since it’s an issue that could be resolved and they are choosing not to do so, it’s a fake issue. Women’s bodily autonomy, our basic set of rights is the only issue in the upcoming election and the GOP knows it. And they are effing terrified.

+1 Meanwhile, the Florida Women’s Freedom Coalition and Floridians Protecting Freedom have 1.3 million signatures so far for a “petition in support of a ballot amendment that would bar the state from restricting abortion “before viability” — which is usually at 24 weeks — or “when necessary to protect the patient’s health.”

That’s encouraging, but how do you keep that up when abortion is not explicitly on the ballot? Voting for a candidate who has positions on many issues seems a lot different than a vote on a single issue ballot question.

Because abortion is implicitly on every ballot.

Dp- you get the word out that Ohio Republicans have stated they will go against the state constitution. They say it’s their god given right to ignore the will of the people. You tar every Republican with those statements, because every one of them aids and abets. And you drive women back to the polls.

Excellent reporting by the NYTs on the inside maneuvering within the SC ahead of the Dobbs decision.

Pretty clear that former Justice Breyer fully cooperated with the reporters and handed over his notes.

Also, this article is damning as to how CJ Roberts has completely lost control of his court. It’s also very clear that someone in Alito’s office leaked the draft.

Voting is always a choice there’s no “perfect candidate“ I guess people have to decide what’s more important rights to their body or lower taxes. We can point to the head of the Republican party who is single-handedly responsible for the overturning of roe by pointing three justices, who knowingly lied about precedence.

If people don’t know by now that Republicans want to restrict access to abortion, I don’t know what else to say.

They cared about the leak until Alito proudly walked in in his big boy romper, pointed to his chest and said “it was me! I did it! I’m a very good boy who wants to hurt women!”

I got 3/4 the way through the article and had to stop because of the incredible anger. I will never vote Republican ever again. I was a member of the young Republicans and a convention page. Never again. I don’t need a bunch of men and a brainwashed religious woman making medical decision for me… but I do! May they rot in hell.

Wow I hadn’t seen this yet, thanks so much for linking. It’s stunning to me that they looked at January 6 and then decided to do this two days later.

Also this - the draft opinion was 98 pages long.

Tell me these fascists aren’t unhinged with power:

“Those dynamics help explain why the responses stacked up so speedily to the draft opinion in February 2022: Justice Alito appeared to have pregamed it among some of the conservative justices, out of view from other colleagues, to safeguard a coalition more fragile than it looked.

[…]

Justice Ginsburg’s death hung over the process. For months, the court delayed announcing its decision to hear the case, creating the appearance of distance from her passing. The justices later allowed Mississippi to perform a bait-and-switch, widening what had been a narrower attempt to restrict abortion while she was alive into a full assault on Roe — the kind of move that has prompted dismissals of other cases.”

It goes on from there, but the takeaways for me are that the fascists are drunk on their power and that John Roberts is weak POS who is but a figurehead. He has no control and is unlikely to earn any back.

The conservative judges knew they were there to overturn Roe and ruin the lives of countless women. It is the whole reason they were nominated. They took their grifts and sat waiting to overturn Roe. The day arrived. Now we must vote conservatives out of office. The GOP just run up the debt and take away personal freedom.

Rage inducing. Pure rage. You @${#%% anti-abortionists have radicalized a whole new generation of women. This is my one and only issue I am voting on and I will be working to make sure the gop loses big time next fall.
