Credit card question

I keep my credit card balance paid off each month. I have some items I purchased and paid for with my credit card, and I'd now like to return those items for a refund. How does the credit card company handle this? Will my next statement show a negative balance?

yes. you will see a credit, and then any purchases, and you will owe the difference. If the credit exceeds your new purchases some cards will cut you a check for the difference and some will carry it over to the next statement.

Thanks, PP!

Yes. Unless you charge more to the card, in which case the balance will be the total of the new charges minus the total of the refund amounts.

If you do not charge anything else to the card, you can ask the credit card company for a refund by check.

Hey OP, one thing:

Say you purchase something for $500. Then you get your statement. Then you return the item.

You still need to make your minimum payment that month on the original $500 charged. Don't assume the return will process in time to mitigate what you owe.

Thanks, this is good to know.
