| Does anyone know who many applicants Sidwell has for their PK and/or K this year or in previous years? Thanks |
| When I took my child to a playdate there a few years ago, I saw 30-35 nametags for PK, and another 30-35 nametags for K. I somehow figured out there were 6-7 playdate sessions that year, which led me to estimate 180-245 applicants for each grade who were committed enough to go through a Saturday morning playdate. Just a rough estimate, but the math suggests sobering odds. |
| I heard they have 1.7 million applicants for each spot. Each in the 99.9th percentile. |
| A recent article suggested an overall 7% admission rate. Factor in siblings/legacies/big names and I'd expect a much lower rate for the average applicant. |
| I get so tired of reading unhelpful comments like the troll's at 12:24. Suffice to say they are well over-subscribed and you would do well to have other options you would be happy with, just in case. I think it is likely true for each grade at Sidwell. We applied for 3rd grade, even after hearing that after siblings they would only have a few spots, just to give it a shot. Our daughter would go if accepted, but we know it's not going to happen so we applied elsewhere as well. Now we wait . . . |
| PP here. Sorry, I meant the first 12:24 poster. |
This person isn't even witty. I put "Sidwell" in the title so you knew what it was about. If you are one of "those" people, spend your time on another thread. |
I thought it was kind of funny. |
| I think some of you are just too tense about the process. Its a joke. A pretty harmless one at that. |
| 12:46 Lighten up. I for one am tired of people asking questions that can only truly be answered by an admissions office. It's not exactly public information. But if you ask, they might tell. |
| I was told 15 to 1 applicants per slot for K/pre-K slots about five years ago. Could have changed since then but that seemed accurate at that time from external evidence. |
| How about for 9th grade? Is that better? Worse? |
(Me too.) |
The percentages were better for 9th grade, as I recall -- I don't know, maybe 20-25%? But that's a little misleading because there's such a process of self-selection by the time of 9th grade admissions. If the SSAT/ISEE scores aren't very strong a lot of families don't bother applying because they know the chances of admission are low. |
I think that's right. Many families that apply for PK or K have no idea whether it is a good fit or not, so many apply that would know it's not the right school later on. |
