| Do passport expediting services still exist, or with the increased security around travel are these expediters not feasible? If they do still exist, does anyone have a recommendation? My passport is expired by several years and just found out about an overseas work trip in the next few weeks. |
| Yes they do, but you can just do it yourself. Instructions on State's website. You have to go in person. It's in downtown DC. |
Second this. My husband got his in just a day or two. |

My DH went in person to the US passport office the day he became a US citizen. Got his passport the same day - but I remember it cost a lot. Couple hundred dollars if I recall.
To him it was worth every penny to not have to get a visa for every country he had to travel to for work! |
| If you have a valid flight itinerary that shows you are leaving within two weeks you can get your passport renewed at the passport agency downtown. It's super easy and quick. I've done it a few times for work trips and you go first to submit your documents and come back to pick passport up about two days later. |
| Go to Travisa in Dupont. Totally worth the money. They'll take care of everything for you. |
| Can also go to the Merrifield post office, but you need to get there early to get in the standby line. You can apply for expedited passports or passport cards. Costs a lot. They can do photos on premises, for a fee. Need to have ALL appropriate documentation with you.. |
