There's a lot more closer to Gallery Place -- Zaytinya, Oyamel, Proof, Jaleo, Graffiato, Daikaya

Dupont --What about Pesce?

little serow and obelisk are pretty pricey for a casual date. and they will have a lengthy wait for a table at little serow.

lauriol plaza is rowdy and mediocre.

It's true there are better choices around Gallery Place.
In Dupont, I'd try Hank's Oyster Bar, Firefly, Boqueria, Pizzeria Paradiso, Bistrot du Coin, or for something supercasual, upstairs at Teaism.
Iron Gate Inn is great for a date, but since its reopening I don't know how casual it is--might be a little upscale.

Little Serow doesn't take reservations and is a small restaurant, so there will likely be a long wait. The food is fabulous though.

if you like japanese food and/or ramen, daikaya or its (more casual) ramen place downstairs are good:
