irritated that I can't file my taxes yet

I am really irritated that the IRS hasn't finalized a specific tax form (8960) I need and therefore I can't file my taxes. The release date has been pushed back to the 20th. I don't even have any investment income besides IRA's, so I don't understand why I have to wait for the form. People file taxes in January every year. You would think the IRS could create all the tax forms by then. Idiots. Anyone else in this situation and frustrated?

I'm irritated too - I'm just waiting for 1098 interest statements from my IRA accounts. The amounts of interest and dividends will be literally maybe $300, so they're completely insignificant, but they're holding up my ability to do my taxes. (I have my W-2's and all my mortgage interest and tax statements and all my receipts for charity stuff.) I'd really like to be able to knock something off my to-do list.

Have you checked online? My IRA tax statements were posted online... I never received paper forms.

IRS employee here. Form 8960 for 2013 is available on irs.gov.

I'm irritated too. I wish banks didn't have until March to send me all the forms. We have so many different forms come to us that if we do our taxes before March, we have to amend.

IRS employee again. We are not idiots; in fact, we have performed fantastically despite sequestration and a government shutdown.

Chill out. This is not a big deal.

OP here. When I go to the IRS website, it says that the 8960 form is a draft form and it can't be used for filing. This wonderful investment income rule went into effect Jan 1, 2013, so the IRS has had a whole year to come up with the tax form. I really would like to submit my taxes so I can determine exactly how much I owe. Like another poster said, I want to knock taxes off my to do list.

Hmm, I am on the web site and it does not say that for me. Go to:

Irs.gov
Click the orange forms and pubs rectangle
Click the current forms and pubs blue rectAngle
Type 8960 in the find box and click find.

Success?

I filed mine (using online statements) on the 28th and got my refunds today! Granted we have a simple solution - but way to go IRS!

Yes, that way seems to work. Thanks! I'm confused why turbotax won't work (and still said the form isn't released) and why some IRS.gov searches were giving me an old/draft form.

None of my investment accounts are sending info until Feb 18, so I can't file till then. It's annoying.

So according to the turbotax forums, although form 8960 has now been released, the IRS hasn't released the instructions for filling the form (the instructions are for the draft version of the form and will reportedly change, which is why turbotax won't let some of us file our taxes yet).

Still waiting for my brokerage 1099 form. Frustrated!
