Eating raw egg yolk?

A recipe I have for a salad dressing says to use raw eggs. Is this safe? I always thought it was a no but a quick google seems to indicate people do eat raw eggs.

yes, i make homemade mayo with raw pastured eggs. never had a problem.

Do you allow your kids to eat them? Like in cookie dough? No snark, I'm purely curious..
