night on the town without the kids - restaurant reccs downtown?

Anonymous
Hi. We are fairly new to the area and have a rare opportunity to dine out sans kids this friday evening. I will be coming from work near Gallery Place and we are wide open to try something fun and new. Only requirements are that it be walkable to metro and not uber-pricey (under $30 entrees per person).

Any suggestions?

Near Gallery Place:
Rasika-- modern impressive Indian

Oyamel-- Mexican take on tapas with flair

Oya-- clean luxe ambiance, serving asian fusion

Matchbox-- always crowded, but always fun! yummy pizza!

Zaytinya-- modern and airy, serving Greek & Mediterranean mezze/tapas

Near Union Station:
Johnny's Half Shell-- DELICIOUS oysters! (everything else is great too)

Good luck...have a great dinner, wherever you decide!

Mintwood Place. It's in Adams Morgan--not next to a metro, but not a bad walk from Woodley Park. Fantastic and eclectic cooking (American with French influence), very casual atmosphere, I think the best thing in town right now.

Also a great fan of Oyamel. BTW if you ever want cheap and don't mind crowding at the bar, go for their tacos at the bar at happy hour. Fantastic.

Del Campo has all the Chinatown buzz right now if you are meat eaters.

Central or Zaytinya are always great.

Jaleo is gross. Don't go there. Zaytinya is good, although it's been a while (I have no babysitter!). Enjoy!

What vibe are you looking for? New and hip? See and be seen type place? Romantic? Quiet?

I also second Rose's Luxury in Cap Hill. It's awesome, great food/drinks and really pretty. Hip too. Also down there - Ambar.
