So how exactly is Miranda going to do this work while working in big law? |
A question that no one would ask if she were a man. |
I think the outcome is going to be interesting, and it’s not outside the realm of reality that MT might win. Remember that the “don’t move Key” guy actually got the most #1 votes last caucus but ultimately lost because of ranked voting. |
That’s not true. It’s a huge time suck. It’s not a gig for someone who has a busy career. I’d argue it’s not great for any parents of young children, either, especially if they’re also working a FT job. If they work all day and have to do SB stuff all evening, that doesn’t leave much time for anything else. I don’t think any of the other members have young kids and a FT job besides. |
Who was that? |
If Miranda wins the caucus, but the narrative is that she got out the Republican vote to gain that position, we may have an opportunity to test the conventional wisdom that whomever wins the caucus has it in the bag. The school board is supposed to be a non-partisan race. When they edged SW out because she’s a fed, I lost all love for their school board caucus. Im not voting for Miranda, but if she causes the demise of the caucus, I won’t shed any tears. |
+1 |
I want to comment on this, but +1 to no one would ask how she would do her job if she was a man. Honestly people. She's a smart woman who knows that job entails. She will figure it out and, I think, do a damn good job at it, too. But to the above point, whoever wins the caucus gets the Democratic endorsement. They go on the sample ballot. No other Democratic can run against them. Right now, there is not a declared Independent or R candidate for this office (and Audrey is running for County Board this year). So, yes, whoever wins the caucus will win. There is no serious debate about that. Also want to say, Miranda has A LOT of supporters who are not Republican. I am one of them. Most parents I know are really ticked at APS this year and inclined to support her. |
I don’t know a lot about the requirements or deadlines. Is it too late for someone to put themselves out there as an independent and cross the “oath” boundary? If this all makes the arlington Dems take a step back from school board races, I would be thrilled. Dare to dream? |
It’s open voting until the 23rd. Go nuts! https://sites.omniballot.us/arlingtondems/app/home |
We need some good old fashioned HUAC committees going. At least that’s what it seems like Mary’s supporters want. Suppress the vote, Kadera wins. That seems to be her strategy. |
LOL that’s exactly WHY aim voting for Miranda. I want to pour gasoline on the Caucus. |
Can someone like Symone Walker still get her name on the ballot as an independent (not for the caucus, but for the actual election) and run against Miranda or Mary? |
Yes, but the odds of her winning are extremely close to zero. Most of Arlington will vote the sample ballot. |
Must register as a candidate by June 8th with the requisite voter signatures |
