Probably genetics most of the time. |
I look forward to Ancestry.com et al solving many mysteries like this one. If the kids are alive, someone, a grandkid, whatever will do 23 and Me.... |
I think we found out what happened to M. McCann - they identified a German pedophile as the one who likely took her.
And Jon Benet, I believe the most recent theory which includes her brother hitting her on the head and her parents covering for him. |
Do people truly think that the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman is some sort of cold case? I have a bridge to sell you |
Possibly everyone- news crews, police, etc- was focused on THE AIRPLANE HITTING THE PENTAGON and not the fender bender on 395. |
^^here, a 2 second google search solved this conspiracy theory/mystery. There was gridlocked traffic at that time. And yes, it seems everyone jumped out of their cars screaming and panicking.

A coworker of mine was in traffic and saw the plane overhead that morning. Who are you crackpots who believe it’s some kind of conspiracy? |
What direction was it flying in? A PP states it was following the river and passed her office in Rosslyn. That's the usual pattern. Others are saying it came from a different direction. Someone told me they saw it coming from a different direction. So would like to hear what your coworker said. |
I want to know what happened to me from the day I was born to the day I was adopted four months later. And I specifically want to know what experiments, if any, I was subjected to. |
what makes you think you were subjected to experiments?? how awful. i certainly hope not. i have a friend who was adopted around 2 months old and she was in the care of a catholic charity in DC. she has some photos of herself with a nun. |
Journalist Gabrielle Glaser published a book this year (American Baby - one of the NYT's Best Books of 2021) that documented some of the really shady stuff that happened/happens in American adoption. In the period that I was adopted there was a lot of concern about ensuring that adoptees were developmentally "normal." Some researchers - legitimate ones - experimented on newborn adoptees to see if it was possible to evaluate us for qualities like intelligence. The state of NY allowed some particularly heinous experiments, including snapping rubber bands at the feet of minutes-old newborns to see how much they cried in response to pain stimulus. Supposedly, the theory was that infants who cried a lot and quickly were likely to be smarter. (!) I was not adopted in NY (thank God), but I have reason to believe I was evaluated for intelligence and other disabilities. I am lucky to have been born in a state where I am allowed to ask for records. There are some notes in my file about various evaluations, but no specific information about what those evaluations entailed. I am sorry to tell you that Catholic Charities has a pretty atrocious human rights record when it comes to adoptions and adoptees. |
Ugh, how awful to hear. And yeah, I do know that catholicism isn't historically wonderful for kids. FWIW, my friend was adopted into a family that utilized a fair amount of corporal punishment, so, clearly they weren't vetted all that wonderfully, although corporal punishment among religious families in the 80s was pretty common I'm sure. |
I think it is a combo of genetics and environmental factors (pollutants etc) but I also wonder if putting babies to sleep on their backs contributes. It makes them sleep less soundly, which could theoretically impact brain development. And likely no one will ever study this to find out because how could you given risk of SIDS. |
My parents weren't especially well vetted either and my agency was the state government in the state where I was born. For a long time being rich and white - or, if working with a religious agency, a member of the same religion - was sufficient. Some adoption critics believe not much has changed on this count. |
The PA plane was shot down. There no freaking was the passengers overtook it out of patriotism. |
