But... and I think this is where the picky eater annoyance comes in... I would never in a million years mention it if someone serves me food with onions. I will eat your chilli and do my best to just avoid the onions, and make it look like I just didn't finish the bowl.

I do have one friend, though, who won't eat most vegetables. Which is fine if she would just... not eat them. But no - she needs to tell everyone all about how much she hates them, and order all her food at restaurants without them.
Eat what you want. But just be chill about it.
+1 And to the unhinged poster who keeps on posting about sh!tty cooks who can't make tasty stew and chili without onions, if you are at my house, you politely tolerate and eat my stew with onions even though you hate onions. And when I'm at your house I do the same with your onion-free stew even though I personally think onions add a like of taste and texture to the stew. What I don't do is call you names and question your cooking abilities. This is what grown-ups do.
