Why do some women think it's acceptable to get engaged without a ring?

I don't like jewelry. So even though I got an engagement ring, I never wore it. We had cheap rings for the ceremony, but neither of us has worn them since.

I’m a woman who is in a great marriage for many years now. My husband did not propose with a ring and neither of us wear them. A ring has nothing to do with high standards for a partner. Grow up.

30 years ago I got engaged without a ring - so did 2 of my friends. All three of our husbands were in grad school at the time. We all got rings later on - but it wasn't a big deal for any of us and we are all still happy and living pretty great lives ...I know many with big rings that cannot say the same. Maybe we just got married for the right reasons....
