We found it immediately creepy and eerie! The very first three scenes are creepy with strong supernatural overtones. It goes on to have creepy/eerie events.

Alas, due to the graphic sex scene, we won’t be watching with our 17 year olds.

It’s the supernatural overtones that caught me off guard. It’s not that they are bad, but I wasn’t expecting that from True Detective. What I liked about the show was that it didn’t go supernatural or surrealistic. It was very much grounded in reality, even when the detective had dementia. I loved Nic Pizzolato and his vision. seeing his shoe felt like talking to a soulmate.

I didn’t know beforehand that he wasn’t working on this season. I noticed immediately that it didn’t feel like him and was very disappointed, but not surprised to see there was a different show runner. She’s also good, very but it wasn’t what I wanted from True Detective. I wish they’d just given the show a different name, kinda like Mare of Eastown. I’ll still be watching, but I was sad to get hyped up for Nic and end up with something completely different.

Took me a couple reads that you were seeing his show and it felt like a soulmate, not that he saw his own shoe as his soulmate. Keep clam and proofread!

Seriously? This isn’t a dissertation board. The posts are bound to have multiple typos because posters don’t put much effort into writing them, let alone proofreading, lol!!!! 😂

Moreover, if you’re going to tell people to proofread, you shouldn’t tell them to “keep clam.”

But the first season had that too. I can’t speak to the other seasons because I started watching season 2 with Vince Vaughn and stopped halfway through… terrible. I didn’t watch any until this season.

I loved the supernatural aspect to it because NA cultures are very into it and their concept of time being circular. (You get some of this in Reservation Dogs. I grew up near reservations and am familiar with a half dozen tribes.)

The writing was soooo bad. Foster and the people’s struggle ruined the show

It is a rip off of Fortitude. A bad one

To be fair season 2 of fortitude was also bad.

Why can't viewers have differing opinions? Some like it, some didn't. You don't need to convince someone that it was good, bad, non-true detective, woke, respectful.
I liked the cinematography and the concept. I liked Jodie Foster and seeing the tension between the indigenous citizens and the others. But the story was lacking, for me.

I just read this whole thread and haven't seen it mentioned, that I THINK Leah is the baby we heard cry after Navarro shot the domestic abuser guy.

Did you link the article because it told you what to think, or because you agree with the article? Because the article basically states that people are upset the leads are gay and/or their characters are gay. That's a weird reaction.

Use of the term 'woke' is giving magacore.

topic change: it was hinted that Danvers slept with Travis- but she appeared to be his stepmother- any takes on this?

What on earth are you talking about? Travis was Rose's partner. Do you mean Prior? And no, she was neither his stepmom nor his lover.
