The last time this happened, I interviewed for one job that was half what I normally do and half another area of expertise that I didn't have. I didn't get that job, but they were so impressed with me in my interview that the director of this department called me a few days later and asked me to come in and talk with another group of project supervisors and managers and he created a position built around all of my skills. It was flattering, but I was also recruited by another company at the same time (I let both companies know that I was interviewing each of them) and ultimately ended up at the second company, but I did have an offer from both companies.
