So I'm 38, 5'8", 135, body reflects delivery and care of two kids despite regular exercise (i.e., extra 5+ lbs around mid section)...trying to stay somewhat fashionable but struggling to find jeans that are flattering but wearable. Bought a pair of dark wash bootcut 7 for All Mankind, but feel like my a$$ is always hanging out - try playing Uno on the floor with your kids in those! Also, didn't want the muffin top effect so feel like they're always falling down on me. The next smaller size seemed too tight on my thighs/hips and emphasized my spare tire. Any suggestions of particular brands that aren't mom jeans but perhaps have a slightly higher rise to avoid my moon over miami/muffin top problems?
Sigh. Help!!!! |
Have you tried Paige jeans? |
Go to denim bar. They'll set you up |
I don't have suggestions, since I'm more of a thunderthighs than a top of the muffin kind of gal, but your post made me smile. |
DKNY stretch jeans look great and seem to stay up better when I sit down. I also don't have nearly as much gap at the back of my waist as other jeans. I bought these because they looked awesome and didn't realize they had stretch in them until I got home and saw it on the tag. |
same type of physical description, 2 kids, 2nd one is almost 8 mos. old
I bought a pair of stretch Levis - got them at TJ Maxx, of all places! They fit so well that I want to wear them all the time! And b/c of the stretch material, they are so comfortable. My butt, which is that flat/wide type, actually looks somewhat shapely in these jeans. |
Tell me about it! With the dropped waist pants these days, if the pants fit your thighs, they're huge around the waist. If they fit your waist, they're too tight in the thighs. This style didn't fit me the last time it came around and I was a young'n then. I just keep waiting for the classic waist to come back! |
First, congratulations on what sounds like an awesome figure.
I think Levi's jeans can be quite forgiving and fashionable. |
I agree. I also love DKNY stretch jeans! |
Where do you buy these jeans? I'm a size 12/14 and can't find any jeans that fit well and are comfortable ![]() To complicate matters, I'm only 5'4 so unless they come in petite/short they're always too long. Where do people usually have jeans hemmed? Is it expensive? |
Nordstrom has a good alterations service. |
I just took my 7 jeans to a tailor in burke. I had them hemmed and taken in in the back (I hate when I bend over I have this huge gap) The look great and I love them! |
sorry pp here THEY look great |
Not the OP, but after reading these comments I decided to go get a pair of DKNY stretch jeans to try, and they are great! Thanks to those of you who suggested them.

Not the OP, but I could have written the post. I ordered the DKNY Stretch (Soho) Jeans, and they are actually pretty great! They are definitely the most comfortable jeans that I've had, and it's so nice not to be falling out of them. While they may not be as trendy as 7s, there is something to be said for a great fit. Thanks for the rec! |
