Since last spring I have been suffering of increasing heart burns and over the summer I began having this horrible stomach pain. It feels exactly like when I had gastritis 15 years ago, which got better after taking some omeprazole (sp?). Anyway, I was in France when this pain started and after a while I noticed it happened every time I ate their french baguette. Once I returned home I still have this pain, but only when I eat bread! NOT when I eat pizza, pasta, rice or anything similar… only bread.
Any ideas of what can be the cause? I mean, what is special about bread or what is in its ingredients that isn't in pizza or rice or pasta? Also, sort of stop eating bread, what can I do to stop the symptoms? |
maybe the bread is more gluntenous than the other things? i also think there may be such a thing as a wheat allergy that's not a gluten reaction. |
Rice is a completely different kind of starch than pasta bread and pizza - which are made from wheat.
I would eliminate ALL wheat for a week and see how you feel. if you feel better, you probably have a gluten intolerance. |
Are you OK with dairy? Bread has milk... |
celiac disease |
+1 |
I know 3 people (including myself) with GERD whose symptoms disappeared completely when they eliminated bread and other wheat based products. No other symptoms that would suggest celiac but it is pretty amazing. |

Wouldn't I feel pain when I eat pasta, pizza and everything else with wheat as well? |
I had exact same symptoms. Ended up being Celiacs. Never would have thought gluten would cause gerd, but it does! |
Processed bread makes me so uncomfortable. I can't eat hot dog buns, hamburger buns, sandwich bread. I asked my doctor about it and he asked if white rice caused a similar reaction, but not brown and what happened when I drink beer. Turns out I am sensitive to the bleaching agent in the processed grains that make bread white. |
