Mucous Plug - how long after you lose it do you typically go into labor?

Anonymous
For those of you second time moms (or for those of you who are just familiar with the subject), how long after losing her mucous plug does a woman typically go into labor? I've heard people say they lost their plug, but they're still going to work and still just waiting for the big event. I'm 35 weeks and it's hitting me that this whole "having a baby" thing could start happening sometime soon....

My water broke about 2-3 hours after I started losing the plug; I was past my due date. However, I have heard that you can walk "plug-less" for a long time (weeks) and supposedly it can even re-generate. I don't think it's a very reliable predictor of impending labor, although it's nice to know that "something" is happening and that your body is getting ready. Good luck!

My water broke about 6 hours later. Baby (the second) was born 3 hours later.

I lost part of my plug on Sunday and went into labor Wednesday night

First baby was a week and a half. With the second, it took a week or two of losing small amounts and then the larger amount about 24 hours before real labor started. I dilated to 2-3 in the week+ of contractions.

Three long weeks...lost my plug at week 36.5 and went into labor (water broke) at week 39.5. And yes, there was even more mucous when my labor started. Went into labor on Fri, baby born on...Sun! Here's hoping #2 is quicker!

I lost my plug in shreds and bits (sorry, gross, I know) for two weeks before going into actual labor.

I lost it essentially all at once the day before I went into labor (2 days prior to due date, first baby)

I lost it while in early stages of labor. I guess judging from responses it depends on the indvidual.
